How Do Year Groups Work in Dubai?
Victory Heights Primary School follows the British National Curriculum, which uses the child's age on 1 September of the academic year to determine their year group. This is the same system used in England and Wales.
Our school covers Foundation Stage 1 through to Year 6, welcoming children from age 3 through to age 11. Each year group has a maximum class size of 25 students, ensuring every child receives individual attention.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the age cutoff for year groups in Dubai?
In British curriculum schools in the UAE, the cutoff date is 1 September. Your child must turn the required age by 1 September of the academic year to enter that year group. For example, to join FS1, a child must turn 3 by 1 September.
My child's birthday is close to the September cutoff — what happens?
If your child's birthday falls between June and August, they will be among the youngest in their year group. If you have concerns about readiness, our admissions team can discuss your child's individual needs during the assessment process. In some cases, a deferral may be considered.
Can my child skip a year group or be placed in a different one?
Year group placement is primarily based on age, but we do consider each child's academic and social development. During the admissions assessment, if our team feels a different placement would better serve your child, we'll discuss this with you directly.
What is FS1 and FS2?
FS stands for Foundation Stage. FS1 is the first year of school for children turning 3, and FS2 is for children turning 4. Together they form the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which focuses on learning through play, developing social skills, and building the foundations for reading, writing and mathematics.
We are relocating from another country — how do you determine the right year group?
If you're transferring from another curriculum (American, IB, Indian, etc.), our admissions team will use your child's date of birth as the starting point, plus any school reports and assessments to determine the most appropriate year group placement in our British curriculum framework.
