At Victory Heights Primary School – City of Arabia, enrichment learning enhances the core curriculum by providing opportunities to explore interests, develop new skills and participate in experiences that broaden each child’s horizons. Enrichment is not extra — it is integral to building curiosity, confidence and lifelong engagement with learning.
Why Enrichment Matters
Enrichment supports the development of the whole child. When children engage in meaningful activities beyond core lessons, they broaden their creativity, develop new interests, build teamwork skills and grow in confidence. These experiences enhance academic learning while nurturing character, resilience and social connection — all of which contribute to success in school and beyond.
Bread and Butter vs Fish and Chips
Our curriculum provides the bread and butter — the essential knowledge and skills every child needs. Enrichment is the fish and chips — the memorable, exciting experiences that bring learning to life.
Both matter. Foundations give security; experiences create joy. Together, they shape confident, curious learners.
What Enrichment Looks Like
Enrichment at Victory Heights takes many forms and is woven throughout the school year. Examples include:
- Period 9 — creative, sporting and special interest clubs that allow children to explore passions.
- Special Projects — cross-curricular tasks that encourage problem-solving and collaboration.
- Thematic Learning Weeks — immersive, whole-school experiences where children explore a shared theme through creative, academic and practical activities.
- Performances & Exhibitions — celebrations of learning that invite children to showcase their talents.
- Community Engagement — activities that build connection with peers, families and the wider community.
Our thematic weeks bring the entire school together around a shared focus. Whether investigating a mystery, travelling through time, exploring environmental responsibility or immersing themselves in scientific discovery, children experience learning as interconnected, dynamic and memorable.
These experiences are inclusive, purposeful and thoughtfully designed to reflect children’s interests and developmental stages — extending curiosity beyond the classroom and strengthening our sense of community.

Primary school should be rich with moments that children remember. Yes, strong foundations matter — reading fluently, thinking mathematically, writing with confidence. But alongside this, there must be experiences that make school joyful and alive.
Enrichment at Victory Heights is not confined to a timetable slot. It includes Period 9 clubs, school trips that extend learning beyond the classroom, themed weeks that immerse children in discovery, performances, projects, and even the simple excitement of a Fish and Chips Day shared together.
These experiences build community. They create stories children take home. They spark curiosity and give learning texture and meaning.
Education, especially in the primary years, should feel purposeful and full of possibility. We are proud to offer both the structure that builds confidence and the moments that make childhood memorable.
Period 9 - Our Enrichment Program
Our co-curricular programme, known as Period 9, runs Monday to Thursday from 2.20pm for all pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. All children, from Year 1-6 attend.
Period 9 offers a wide range of clubs and activities designed to extend learning beyond the classroom. Whether creative, sporting, academic or practical, these sessions give children the opportunity to pursue passions, try something new and develop confidence in a supportive environment.
Participation is inclusive and varied across the year, ensuring children experience both depth in chosen interests and breadth across different domains.
Enrichment & Wellbeing
Enrichment also plays a key role in wellbeing. When children pursue interests, experience success in different arenas and connect with peers around shared passions, their sense of belonging and confidence grows. These experiences help build resilience, teamwork and social awareness — vital life skills that support academic learning and emotional health.
Trips and Excursions
Learning extends well beyond the school gates through a carefully planned programme of trips and excursions that bring the curriculum to life in real-world settings.
- Curriculum-linked trips — 2–3 trips per year aligned with current curriculum units, ensuring every excursion deepens classroom learning
- Residential trips — Available for Year 3 and above, building independence, resilience, and lasting memories
- Reward trips — Usually taking place at the end of the academic year, these trips reward children for their hard work over the year
