Sport & Clubs

At Victory Heights Primary – City of Arabia, sport and clubs are an essential part of every child’s development — building confidence, teamwork and lifelong healthy habits.

We believe that sport and physical activity are fundamental to the well-rounded development of every child. Through organised competition, collaborative games and skill-based experiences, pupils grow in confidence, resilience and cooperation — both on and off the field.

Foundations of Movement

For our youngest learners, sport is about joy, exploration and building physical confidence. In the early years and Key Stage 1, our programme focuses on fundamental movement skills, co-ordination, balance and teamwork through guided play and structured activities.

Children are encouraged to participate, enjoy challenge and discover their own physical strengths in a supportive environment.

Skills. Strategy. Leadership.

As pupils progress into Key Stage 2, our sport and activity programme becomes more structured, with opportunities for competition, skill progression and leadership. Children represent the school in inter-house and inter-school competitions, develop game strategies and mentor younger participants.

Sport at City of Arabia is about more than performance. It is about helping every child discover their strengths, develop resilience and understand the importance of teamwork.

Whether representing their House, competing in fixtures or developing a new skill for the first time, our pupils are encouraged to challenge themselves and support one another.

It is a privilege to see the confidence that grows through participation.

Swimming Programme

Swimming is a fundamental part of our physical education programme at Victory Heights Primary – City of Arabia. In a city where water is a constant presence, we believe swimming is not simply an activity, but an essential life skill.

Our structured swimming curriculum develops water confidence, stroke technique and personal safety. Children progress through clearly defined stages, building both competence and resilience in the pool.

Whether a child is beginning their journey in the water or refining competitive technique, our aim is to ensure every pupil leaves primary school as a confident and capable swimmer.

Paul Murphy

Swimming is one of the most rewarding aspects of our sport provision. For many children, it represents a moment of breakthrough — from tentative first entries into the water to the confidence of completing full lengths independently.

We focus not only on technique, but on building calmness, control and self-belief. Watching children grow in confidence week by week in the pool is something we value immensely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is swimming compulsory?

Swimming forms part of our core Physical Education curriculum and is a compulsory element of the programme. We believe swimming is an essential life skill, particularly in the UAE, and all pupils participate in structured lessons appropriate to their stage of development.

Lessons are differentiated to ensure that beginners build confidence safely, while more experienced swimmers continue to refine technique and endurance.

Do all children take part in Physical Education?

Yes. Physical Education is a core part of the curriculum from FS1 to Year 6. All pupils take part in weekly PE lessons designed to develop physical literacy, teamwork and resilience.

Our programme ensures that every child is supported and challenged at an appropriate level, encouraging both participation and personal improvement.

Are there opportunities for competitive sport?

Pupils in Key Stage 2 have opportunities to represent their House and the school in competitive fixtures, tournaments and sporting events throughout the year.

While competition is an important part of sport, we place equal value on sportsmanship, effort and personal growth.

Can children try different sports and clubs?

We offer a broad range of sporting clubs across the academic year, allowing pupils to explore new activities and develop varied skills. Children are encouraged to try different sports as they grow, helping them discover their strengths and interests.

Clubs are designed to complement our curriculum provision and to provide additional opportunities for challenge and enjoyment.
