At Victory Heights Primary – City of Arabia, the Creative Arts are an essential part of every child’s education — developing confidence, creativity, self-expression and a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

We believe every child has the potential to be creative. Through art, music and drama, pupils are encouraged to explore ideas, develop new skills and express themselves with confidence. Our specialist teaching and dedicated creative spaces provide children with the opportunity to experiment, perform, collaborate and, most importantly, have fun.

Art. Music. Drama.

Our Creative Arts curriculum gives children opportunities to explore a wide range of artistic disciplines and develop their own creative voice.

Art & Design

In our spacious art studio, children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and develop their skills across a wide range of media and techniques.

From drawing and painting to sculpture, textiles and mixed media, pupils learn to observe, create, refine and reflect. We celebrate individual expression while developing the technical skills, patience and craftsmanship that allow children’s ideas to flourish.

Music

Music is a vibrant part of life at Victory Heights. Through singing, playing instruments, listening, composing and performing, children develop their understanding of rhythm, pitch, notation and musical expression.

Our music room provides a stimulating environment for children to make music together, with opportunities to play keyboard, percussion and ukulele as the children move through the school. We believe that every child should experience the joy of making music, whether they are discovering an instrument for the first time or developing their confidence as a performer.

Drama

Our new Black Box drama studio provides an exciting dedicated space for children to develop their performance skills.

Through drama, pupils explore character, voice, movement, expression and storytelling. They learn to work collaboratively, take creative risks and communicate with confidence, supported by a growing collection of props and costumes that bring their ideas to life.

Drama also gives children the opportunity to develop skills that extend far beyond the stage — including listening, empathy, teamwork and self-confidence.

A Stage for Every Child

Performance is an important part of life at Victory Heights, and throughout the year there are multiple opportunities for children to share their talents with our school community.

We usually begin the year with a musical concert, bringing together children from Year 1 to Year 6 for a celebration of whole school singing.

In December, our Winter Show gives children another opportunity to perform, combining music, drama and storytelling in a festive celebration.

Later in the year, children can audition for our summer musical — one of the highlights of the Victory Heights calendar. From performers and singers to backstage roles and creative contributions, the production provides children with an exciting opportunity to work together towards a shared goal and experience the magic of putting on a show.

We want every child to feel that there is a place for them in the Creative Arts, whether they love being centre stage, creating behind the scenes or simply discovering something new.

Developing Confidence Through Creativity

The Creative Arts provide a unique opportunity for children to discover strengths that they may not always find in the traditional classroom.

Whether a child is performing a solo, creating a piece of artwork, playing an instrument for the first time or stepping into character in our drama studio, we celebrate the courage it takes to have a go.

Our aim is to create an environment where children feel safe to experiment, make mistakes, try again and express themselves. Through creativity, collaboration and performance, children develop confidence that carries into every area of school life.

Instrumental Tuition

For children who would like to develop their musical skills further, we currently offer individual instrumental tuition in voice and piano through our specialist partners, Brooklyn Melodies.

Fiona MacLaren
At Victory Heights we believe the very best creative arts experiences are those where children are completely immersed in what they are doing. I love bringing movement, expression, energy and plenty of fun into music, art and drama. Most importantly, I want every child to leave lessons feeling that they have created something, discovered something or simply had a brilliant time being themselves.

Do all children have opportunities to perform?
Yes. Performance is an important part of our Creative Arts provision, and all children have multiple opportunities throughout the year to perform as part of concerts, shows and school celebrations.
Can my child learn an instrument at school?

Children develop their artistic skills through our specialist Art curriculum and have opportunities to experiment with different materials, techniques and creative processes. Art also features throughout wider school life through displays, projects and celebrations of children's work.
